Getting Started

Mudlark is a scratchpad for macOS. You write on the left side, and the right side shows your notes cleaned up and organized. Start any line with a special character to tell Mudlark what it is — a task, a question, a highlight, a piece of code, and more.

The basics

  1. Open Mudlark. You’ll see two sides: where you type on the left, and the organized view on the right.
  2. Start typing. Write anything. Plain text appears in both panes.
  3. Add a symbol. Start a line with + for a task, ? for a question, or # for a heading. The right side updates instantly.
  4. Check off a task. Type - part of the name on a new line. Mudlark finds the matching task and crosses it out. You don’t need to type the whole thing.
  5. Export when ready. Send your notes to Obsidian, Bear, Drafts, Apple Notes, or the clipboard.

Mudlark starts you with the basics — 8 symbols that cover everyday note-taking. When you want more, long-press the lock icon in the editor to unlock the full feature set.
